Happy Valentine’s Day!

Happy Valentine’s Day everyone! This post is coming a little later than usual, but oh well.

I wasn’t sure if I was going to post today because of reasons stated in my last post, but I couldn’t resist!

I wish I could have been able to write the posts I wanted to about Valentine’s Day before this, but oh well, I will write them at some point. 🙂

So I’ll be honest, Valentine’s Day isn’t my favorite holiday. Probably because I think it’s a made up holiday so that stores can make money. But, I still enjoy today. 🙂 I think it’s so important, actually it’s most important, that people show love to the special people in their life year around, not just on today. That doesn’t mean celebrating today with that special person is wrong either though.

Becky + Ryan 46

Ryan and I prefer to keep Valentine’s Day low key and not spend too much money. After all, my birthday is in three days, so that’s way more important to me than Valentine’s Day. 😉 But we still have plans to make tonight a fun, romantic, inexpensive date night. 🙂

Becky + Ryan 35

I will go pick us up dinner at a restaurant Ryan has been wanting to try that is known for it’s burgers, fries,  and shakes. A.K.A. Ryan’s favorite kind of restaurant. When I am out picking up dinner, Ryan is going to make sure everything is perfect at home for a romantic, date night dinner at home. This is a perfect, low key Valentine’s Date for us. We would much rather do this than go out to an expensive restaurant that is extremely crowded and wait forever to be seated. Um, no thanks. We will stay at home and be comfortable. 🙂

I can almost guarantee I will be wearing fuzzy socks on this date. #totallynormal

I am also excited for the rest of this weekend! Like I have mentioned, my birthday is this Saturday, so this weekend we are celebrating that with my family.

Photo on 2013-11-09 at 22.00 #2

Tomorrow morning Ryan and I are volunteering with a group from our church to do some type of canned food drive or something. (I’m not totally sure what we will be doing; I guess I will find out tomorrow!) Then tomorrow night Ryan and I are having dinner with my parents, brother, and SIL to celebrate my big day. I think we are all staying the night with my parents because Sunday we are having a big lunch with the rest of my family to celebrate my birthday and my little cousin’s 8th birthday, which was earlier this month. Here’s the whole group who should be at our Sunday lunch!

Plus my other set of grandparents who aren’t in this picture, but here they are below.

I am so excited for the birthday celebrations to begin!

Lucky for me though, the celebrations won’t end this weekend! Ryan and I will go out to eat by ourselves next weekend to celebrate my birthday! Since my birthday is on a Monday and I will have work the next day, I told Ryan I would rather us go out on a weekend so we won’t have to worry about working the next day. I also don’t mind extending my birthday celebrations. 😉

So there’s a little bit of what I will be up to this Valentine’s/birthday weekend! Oh I will also be fitting in a 17 mile run at some point! This will be the longest distance for me to ever run; I’m pretty excited!

Finally, I have to end by wishing my amazing husband/Valentine/best friend an amazing day!

Cheers to 2014

Happy New Years friends! I hope you all had a fun and safe New Years Eve. For the first time in a while I did not make it until midnight last night. Ryan and I went to bed about 11. We were tired and couldn’t make it. I know, we are old.

Happy New Year 2014 Fireworks

I actually feel no shame admitting that at all. We had a fun time last night. We ate dinner and watched The Hobbit. It was a relaxing night at home, which after being so busy for Christmas, was exactly what we needed. Going to bed early enabled me to get up, have a good workout, and then have a nutritious breakfast before Ryan and I start our day.

Today is the day so many people will start new years resolutions. I am not really a big person for new years resolutions, but I do like to think of certain things I want to do for the next year. So here are my hopes for 2014.

I hope to spend to enjoy every moment I get to spend with  my husband, and have fun with him every day.

I hope to spend lots of time with family and make unforgettable memories.

I hope to stay in touch with all of my friends whom I love.

I hope to read new books.

I hope to continue learning about all aspects of life.

I hope to be a good teacher to my students.

I hope to be healthy, challenge my body, and try more nutritious foods I have never had before.

I hope to grow closer to the Lord and to seek His will for Ryan and I.

I hope I get better at reading my Bible every day.

I hope I become a better wife to Ryan.

I have a lot of hopes for the new year, but sometimes what we hope for doesn’t always come true. That’s okay because I trust and have faith that God has a plan for 2014, He knows exactly what is going to happen, and He is going to be there for me through it all. That is enough to get us all excited about a new year! I hope you all have a fabulous day, and I hope you can enjoy today with the ones you love!

1. What are you hopes for 2014?

2. Did you make any new years resolutions? If so, what are they?

3. What did you do last night?

4. Do you have any fun traditions for New Years Day?

Birthday Celebrations!

First off, I want to start out by giving a HUGE happy birthday to the most amazing husband in the world!!!

So before I get I give you all a recap of our weekend, I have to say a few things.

Ryan, thank you for always being there for me, holding my hand, making my tears go away, just like the picture above shows.

Thank you for always making me laugh. Thank you for being the amazing Christian man and leader that I need. Thank you for praying for me, loving me, and always putting me above yourself. Thank you for supporting me, putting up with me, and never getting mad when my alarm goes off at 4:45 in the morning. 😉

Thank you for constantly encouraging me and supporting me in everything I do. Thank you for being a gentleman at all times and doing the little things, like opening my door and cleaning the dishes. You are an amazing person, and you positively impact so many  people in our life. You make me a better person, a better wife, and a better Christian. I am honored to submit myself to you and follow you, because by doing this I know I am also following Jesus.

Okay, so now onto a recap of our super fun, marvelous weekend! This means I definitely have to link up with Marvelous Mondays!

Like I mentioned, we started celebrating Ryan’s birthday Saturday by staying at a hotel that night and going out to eat. The hotel was really nice, (and I got a great deal which made it even better!), but the only disappointment was that the pictures showed there was an indoor hot tub with the indoor pool, but I guess they haven’t updated their website because where the hot tub should have been was just a table and chairs. 😦 But we definitely didn’t let that ruin our weekend, and we still had a blast!

We started off the day by going to Ryan’s favorite store!

I actually really enjoy going to this store too. Ryan didn’t buy anything, but he had some things he needed to return and we just looked around.

I told Ryan to pick anywhere he wanted for us to eat, and this was his choice.

Burger House Hamburgers! Ryan loves places like this, where they just make good burgers, fries, and homemade shakes. He isn’t a fancy restaurant guy, which I love about him. Plus, I love restaurants like this too, so it made for a perfect dinner.

This was my meal. I know this looks like a lot of food, but I actually got the kids meal! This was the kid’s burger and fries and then a small vanilla milkshake. It was all delicious! 🙂

I think the handsome birthday boy liked his dinner.

After we ate we were both stuffed and went back to our hotel room to relax and watch the Dallas Mavericks basketball game. Ryan didn’t want to do anything else. I know this date night doesn’t seem like much, but it was perfect for us!

We woke up the next morning and were ready for the free breakfast the hotel offered by the time it opened at 7:00 a.m. I enjoyed some oatmeal with walnuts and some eggs.

Ryan and I both agreed that it was one of the best free hotel breakfasts we had ever had. The eggs were actually real and didn’t look like patties. (Do y’all know what I’m talking about? Where they don’t look or taste like eggs? If you don’t know, consider yourself lucky).

By the time we got back home it was too late to go to our own church, so we watched a sermon online together, and then took our dogs out for a walk before the Cowboys football game started.

We actually went for a walk/run, and I was very proud of Ryan because it has been a while since he last ran. But when we finished I think he was a little tired. 🙂

For the rest of the afternoon we relaxed, Ryan watched football, and I did some grocery shopping and food prep for the week. Ryan also helped me make dinner, so we had some delicious chicken fajitas with guacamole!

I ate mine on corn tortillas and topped them eat with spinach and tomatoes. Then I had carrots, bell pepper, and some Almond Thins with guacamole. Delicious!

That was all of our birthday weekend, but of course we are still celebrating today!

I got this Happy Birthday sign at WalMart last night, so it will probably be up all week. 🙂 Tonight we are having Ryan’s favorite meal for dinner, cheeseburgers, chips and queso, and macaroni and cheese. Then pumpkin pie for dessert!

Ryan, I hope you have an amazing birthday, and I look forward to celebrating many more with you! Love you!

1. Tell me something fun from your weekend!

2. What is your favorite meal?

3. What is your favorite flavor of milkshake?

How Great is Thy Faithfulness

So I really am hoping that I can get better at this whole regularly blogging thing, and that I can somehow figure out a way to have time in my day to write and post more. I love blogging so much, but I just seem to get so busy and don’t have the time. 😦 It is okay though, I will keep trying my best! I definitely have some news to catch y’all up on though! 🙂

So the last two weeks the hymn, How Great is thy Faithfulness has been in my head, and for a very good reason. Some of you who have read my blog this summer might have noticed me saying that Ryan has to work most weekends, meaning we are on totally different schedules, and we can’t see each other as much as we like. This also means Ryan can hardly ever go to church because he works all day Sunday and Saturday, so Saturday night church isn’t even an option for us. I have been going by myself, but I have greatly missed going with my new husband, and I know he really misses going to church too. Being a minister’s son, he has grown up in the church his whole life, so not being able to go now is very hard.

Ryan and I have been praying hard all summer for the Lord to provide Ryan with a new job. We were both very thankful that Ryan had a job and could support us both, but his long work schedule was really wearing on him and me. We desperately cried out to the Lord for him to reveal His plan to us, and give us a peace for where we were at that time. We knew we had so much to be thankful for, and that the Lord had a reason for putting Ryan in a job where we didn’t get to see each other much and where Ryan couldn’t go to church.

At the beginning of August my in-laws came and stayed with us for a few days. They knew Ryan wanted a new job, and my mother-in-law shared this bible verse with me.

Psalm 91:14-15 “‘Because he loves me,’ says the Lord, ‘I will rescue him; I will protect him, for he acknowledges my name. He will call on me, and I will answer him; I will be with him in trouble, I will deliver him and honor him.'”

I immediately began to pray this verse for Ryan daily. I started back to school in the middle of August, and there were still no signs of Ryan getting a new job. We were very discouraged, especially Ryan.

Well about a month ago Ryan started looking into working for a Christian company. There was a job opening and Ryan applied for it. It sounded like the perfect job for Ryan. We prayed and asked the Lord to just open doors, and if this wasn’t the job for Ryan, to close the door and make that clear to us. We said no matter what we will give God all the glory.

About a week after Ryan applied for the job he was contacted and told they wanted to interview him. We were so excited! This was going to be Ryan’s first interview, and he really wanted this job. We spent the whole week until the interview prepping and getting ready. Ryan took his suit to the dry cleaners and the night before the interview we stayed up late so I could ask him possible interview questions.

We both prayed hard about the interview and that God would give Ryan a peace during the interview and give him the words to say. After the interview Ryan called me and said all of the prayers paid off. He felt great about it, and knew that if he didn’t get the job then it wasn’t in the Lord’s plan. We continued to pray and trust in the Lord.

A week later Ryan got a call. THEY OFFERED HIM THE JOB!!! I screamed when I found out, and we immediately prayed and thanked God for answering our prayers better than we could have ever imagined! With his new job, Ryan will get to work with Christians, he gets every other Friday off, and he gets three weeks of vacation. We feel so blessed, and we could not be more thankful. This was such a great reminder that God’s plan is so much better than ours, and we have to be patient and let God’s plan have time to pan out.

Now earlier I wrote that we knew God had Ryan at his old job for a reason. Here are some major life lessons we both learned from the job Ryan has had the last four months.

  • God’s plan is so much better than ours! We have to trust him and be patient!
  • Be thankful in all circumstances, no matter how hard they may be!
  • Be thankful that you have the opportunity to go to church and serve. Everyone is not able to do this, so church should not be taken for granted.
  • Family time should not be taken for granted. Many families cannot spend as much time together as they like because their work schedules are opposite.

Ryan’s last day at his job is tomorrow and Monday he begins his new job! We are so excited! To celebrate his last day, tomorrow night we are having a date night! 🙂 We might even go to Studio Movie Grill. 🙂

I know I haven’t written in so long, and I have so much to share with y’all, but this is the biggest thing in our lives right now, and I had to share God’s faithfulness! I will try to write more regularly, because I have some fitness related things to share and some yummy recipes! 🙂

Also, if I nominated you for the Sunshine award in my last post and you emailed me about the questions, I am still working on getting those to you! Sorry! 🙂

1. How has God proved his faithfulness to you lately?

2. Do you like to pray Scripture?

3. Have you ever been to Studio Movie Grill? I have only gone once, but it was so fun!

What is a Hero?

Yesterday morning I went to my school’s convocation for all of the teachers  from the school district. I honestly wasn’t too excited about this because I just thought it would be a boring ceremony where I would have to listen, or pretend to listen, to some speaker while I thought about anything else I could think of in my brain.

Well, I was pleasantly surprised when I actually really enjoyed the convocation and loved the speaker! The whole theme of the convocation was being a hero and how teachers can truly be heros to their students.

Teachers don’t get the smartest, brightest kids; they get the abused, the dyslexic, the mentally challenged, the ADHD, the poor, the rich, the hungry, the homeless, and then they get a few kids who have the perfect home life. Teachers, then take these kids and try their best to teach them, not just subjects, but about life and morals. Teachers care for their students, they discipline them, and they love them.

I am pretty sure we can all admit that kids today need to be loved and disciplined. As I sat through this convocation I began to think about what exactly I thought a hero was.

Here is my definition:

Hero: Someone who is selfeless, cares for others, and lives his or her life for everyone else but themselves. A hero is hardworking, and knows that laziness does not lead to prosperity. A hero is positive, and shares that positivity with others. A hero realizes that doing what is right and good is not easy and is not popular with most of the population today, but despite knowing this, they do what is right and good anyway.

So, needless to say,  a hero is so much more than what we sometimes think of.

As I thought of my definition of a hero, many people came to my mind. Here are some of my heroes.

1. Jesus Christ is my hero. I have some amazing people in my life, but none of them compare to the Lord. He came to this sinful world in the flesh, lived a perfect life, and then died a horrible death so that I and everyone else could live eternally with Him one day. He took on all of our sin and took the punishment we deserve. He loves me more than anyone ever could and more than I could ever imagine. I am forever grateful, and because of this I live my life for Him.

2. Ryan, my amazing husband, is my hero. I know I constantly write about what an awesome husband he is and how much I love him, but words can never describe just how extraordinary my husband is and how much he blesses me. He is such a Godly, selfless, hardworking, loving, supportive man, who is extremely mature for his age. He has a hard schedule, but he works every single day to provide for us so that I can finish my last semester of school without working. He has never once claimed our money as his, even though it all comes from his paycheck, and I know he never would because that isn’t the kind of man he is. He is selfless, and would do anything for me. Every night he washes the dishes for me (after getting home late from work), and always asks if there is anything else he can do to help. At the young age of 21, when most guys that age think about nothing but partying and different girls they can be with, he asked me to marry him and immediately started looking for a job to have when he graduated from college. At the young age of 22, he married me and made a covenant between the two of us and God. He continues to always keep God the center of His life, and he loves me just as Christ loved the church. (Ephesians 5:25). I can honestly say that Ryan makes me a better person, he makes me happier, and I have grown so much in the Lord since he came into my life. He always says I am out of his league, but the truth is, he is way out of my league. I love him more than anyone on this earth, and I am so proud to be his wife.

3. My mom is  my hero. She is such an amazing woman and has showed me how to be a Godly wife, mother, and friend. She always has such a positive and fun outlook on life, and I love that so much! She fought cancer when I was 10 years old, and she beat it with a smile on her face! She is one of the most giving, selfless people I know, and I seriously would be lost without her. I always have so much fun when I am with her, and I hope I can be just half the wife and mother she is.

4. My Daddy is my hero. By watching him, I have learned how a Godly husband and father should act, and because of him, I knew how a man should treat me. He always provided for our family, but never let his job come before any of us. He made sure he never had to miss a cross country meet, a volleyball or basketball game, a tennis match, or a track meet. When I was little he played Barbies with me every day, he got up in the middle of the night, every night, to get me water, and he didn’t get mad at me the time I threw up on his pillow. If I ever need or want to talk, he is always there. He is now my favorite person to run races with, and this is something I treasure very much! So pretty much he is SuperDad. 🙂

Dad and me collage

5. My big brother, Ben, is my hero. I mean, first of all, he has put up with me being his annoying little sister who asks a million questions about everything  for the last 21 years. That should probably make him a hero right there. 😉 But seriously, Ben is one of the most hard working, dedicated people I know. When he sets his mind to something and makes a goal, he gets it done. And he doesn’t just barely get it done, he does whatever he does successfully and tremendously. He graduated college with his bachelor’s degree in 3 and 1/2 years while working part-time, and then graduated with his masters degree in a year and a half while working full time. He had it set in his mind that when he graduated with his masters he wanted to move closer to home and work at a hospital. Guess what? He graduated on a Friday, moved to an apartment closer to home on a Saturday, and started his new job at a hospital on a Monday. Like I said, he sets goals and he accomplishes them. Also, I have to mention that even with his busy, hectic schedule, he always makes time for his family. I love him so much, and I know he doesn’t realize how proud I am of him.

Ben and me collage

6. My in-laws, Bob and Debbie, are my heroes. They have raised three amazing young men, one of whom I think is extra amazing because he is my husband. 🙂 They brought him up well and taught him to fear the Lord. They also took me in as family and always loved me. Right before Ryan and I started dating they moved about 6 hours away from where we were attending school. Because of this, they didn’t get to meet me for a while, but as soon as they did, they welcomed me with open arms. They took every chance they had to get to know me and include me in whatever their family was doing. They love me and have let me become part of their family, and for this, I am so grateful. I can honestly say I love my in-laws and have been blessed by them!

7. My second, third, and fourth grade teachers are my heroes. Why these three teachers specifically? Believe me, I have had some incredible teachers, but these three really went above and beyond what their job required, and they impacted me so greatly that I still remember much from them today. I remember how my second grade teacher would take the time to come to my little league basketball games. I remember how when I told my third grade teacher I wanted to be a writer when I grew up, she looked at me with one of the most genuine smiles anyone could have, and she said, “I honestly believe you will be some sort of writer someday”. And my fourth grade teacher still cares enough about me today that she continues to keep up with me through my Mom, and she even came to one of my bridal showers. These ladies taught me so much more than just subjects in the classroom, and are part of the reason I decided to pursue teaching as a career.

Sorry, I don’t have any pictures of these three. 😦

In case you can’t tell, I am extremely blessed with some amazing people in my life, who I honestly think are heroes. I know there are many more heroes, but these are the first people I thought of. Heroes come in all shapes and sizes, and none of them are the same. I do think it is important to think about who are your heroes, and let them know. They obviously mean a lot to you, and they have done something to impact your life. I am sure it will mean a lot to them if you tell them how much you think of them.

So my question for you is, how would you define a hero? Who are some of your heroes?

I also want to challenge you to let one of your heroes know how much you think of them.

I know this is kind of a long post, but this had been on my mind since yesterday, and I wanted to write about it. If you read this whole thing, kudos to you! 🙂
